Look up when someone walks in. Say hello. If you're mid-shot, a nod and a 'with you in a moment' is enough — silence reads as indifference. The Japanese tradition is even simpler: a small bow and 'irasshaimase' (welcome). The bar is a stage; the guest is the reason it exists.
