Italy — the standing bar

Espresso at the counter, paid at the till

In Italy, espresso is a 30-second ritual taken standing at the bar. Order 'un caffè' (just 'a coffee') for an espresso. Cappuccino is a morning drink — ordering one after 11am marks you as a tourist (but no one will mind). Pay at the cashier first, take the receipt to the bar, place a small coin on it for the barista. No to-go cups, no laptops, no lingering. Quick, social, daily.
